Public Health Alumna Recognized in “10 Under Ten” Awards

The UNC Charlotte Young Alumni Chapter’s 10 Under Ten Awards aim to recognize exceptional UNC Charlotte alumni who have graduated within the past ten years. Created in 2018, the award program shines a spotlight on graduates who are not only staking their claim in their professional careers, but who are also heavily involved in the community through volunteering and philanthropy.

In turn, their commitment to giving back has made a significant impact on the communities where they live and work.

“Every year, I am blown away by the magnitude of each candidate who receives the 10 Under Ten Award and this year’s class is truly Gold Standard,” said Courtney Rothenberg Hunt ’18, president of the Young Alumni Chapter.

“UNC Charlotte has the most incredible alumni who are selfless in their giving back to the University and their community. It is an honor to be able to know and recognize such amazing individuals in our Niner Nation family.”

Dr. Dayna S. Alexander ’06, ’10
Public Health, College of Health and Human Services

Dayna has been committed to public health since the age of 13, when she served as a candy striper for what is now Atrium Health. She is driven by a purpose to serve and create healthy lifestyle changes in communities. Dayna has more than 12 years of experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating interventions in rural and urban settings using culturally responsive research and evaluation principles. As a health scientist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, she develops and manages tobacco prevention and control program evaluations and provides technical expertise to American Indian tribes. Additionally, she has served as a HIV community engagement expert to the South Africa, Uganda, and Zimbabwe country offices. Currently, she is an adjunct professor at Concordia University in Chicago. Dayna has published more than 30 articles on chronic disease prevention and management.
