Advising

If you are new to UNC Charlotte, or exploring options, the Academic Advising website is designed primarily for undergraduate students like you (graduate students should contact advisors in their program of study). This site provides you, as an undergraduate student, with a roadmap for finding the most appropriate academic advising and to answer common questions.

The CHHS Advising Center in the College of Health and Human Services advises current and prospective students who are interested or enrolled in the college’s undergraduate degree programs. The Advising Center maintains academic records, disseminates scholarship information, recruits students, and monitors student health history files. The Center is staffed by three fulltime academic advisors familiar with the range of degree offerings in the College and can be of help to students interested in the majors in the college including the Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH).

Who Is My Advisor?

  • If you are new to UNC Charlotte or have not declared a major, you should be sure to visit the University Advising Center.

  • If you are interested in the range of undergraduate degree programs in the College of Health and Human Services and want to find more general information about our programs you should contact the College of Health and Human Services Advising Center.

  • The Department of Public Health Sciences administers three undergraduate programs: Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH), Bachelor of Science in Health Systems Management, and the Public Health minor (HLTH)

Students who are interested in the Bachelor of Science in Public Health undergraduate major typically declare the Pre-Public Health major (PRPH) in their first year or two at UNC Charlotte; you can declare the PRPH program of study – and learn more about the requirements for the BSPH degree – by contacting the college’s Advising Center and by visiting the BSPH website. When you declare the PRPH course of study an academic advisor in the Advising Center will be assigned to you. To find your faculty advisor if you are a declared Pre-Public Health major:

  3. Click on “Student Services/Student Accounts”

Students who are admitted into the Bachelor of Science in Public Health undergraduate major are assigned a faculty advisor at the beginning of each fall term. Students are responsible for contacting their assigned advisor for assistance in planning their course of study, completing the degree on time, and preparing for life after graduation! To find your faculty advisor in the Department of Public Health Sciences if you are a BSPH major:

  1. Log into My UNC Charlotte
  2. Click on “Banner Self-Service”
  3. Click on “Student Services/Student Accounts”
  4. Click on “Student Records”; “General Student Record” is 1st link

The Public Health Minor extends students’ working knowledge of health applications, better preparing them to be competitive in the job market and to make advanced degree choices. Almost any student can declare the minor and many students find the minor useful, especially students with majors in nursing, exercise science, athletic training, biology and other life sciences, psychology and other social sciences, and communication studies. To declare the minor as your official course of study visit the college’s Advising Center or contact Dr. Ahmed Arif.
